Types of Orthodontic Braces

Self-ligating braces are a popular choice for many orthodontic patients. They are more aesthetically pleasing, with modern versions being smaller and much more comfortable. Not only are they considered more attractive than previous versions, but self-ligating braces are stronger, easier to keep clean and are more durable.

Clear Braces

The transparent ceramic material that clear braces are constructed with is the main reason for their very broad appeal. In fact, when paired with a wire the same color as the patient’s teeth, these orthodontic appliances can often go unnoticed. This can be truly satisfying, especially for adult patients. Despite the fact that clear braces are less conspicuous, visually, these ceramic braces tend to be on the larger side and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. This means patients will need to pay a greater amount of attention to their oral hygiene.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces (Incognito™) are the least visible type of orthodontic braces, as they are bonded behind the teeth. This creates an aesthetically pleasing outcome for many patients, who desire an ideal treatment for their orthodontic issues. They are custom-made for each patient and work in a highly comparable way to traditional braces. In fact, the only difference is that nobody can tell you have braces at all!

Invisalign Aligners

Invisalign™ aligners, like lingual braces, are custom-made for a patient’s teeth. They are comprised of a series of aligner trays made out of a smooth plastic, that are comfortable to wear and visually discreet. A patient must wear these aligners night and day, as the aligner trays gently change the position of the teeth. Eventually, the teeth will be aligned in their desired position.
